LifeWorks Adult Transition Program (ATP) embarked on an exciting journey when they opened their very own on-campus cafe for staff and adult students! A mix of LifeWorks staff and adult students make a variety of cafe drinks and food, and they now provide delivery service to staff on the shared campus with Alessandro and the HUSD Wellness Center, with plans to expand to the nearby Jacob Wiens Elementary School.
Staff experienced in running these school site cafes came together to remodel and build their own space. The cafe’s environment provides a warm welcome with group seating and a small library to read from.
In addition to providing a warm learning environment, the cafe offers an opportunity for LifeWorks adult students to learn some workplace skills such as customer service and food preparation and also serves as a place of enjoyment, hosting periodic karaoke events.
While not open to all of HUSD, the school cafe operation continues to expand with online ordering (for the sites listed above) and a hardworking team putting together orders for the growing morning rushes.
